Who cares ?  pilot workshop :  Attleborough High School : March, 2010

The project aimed to equip young people with the tools and confidence to understand and question challenging concepts.  Mark is passionate about the role and responsibilities we share to ensure a healthy planet.  He believes the issues surrounding climate change are an opportunity to create a better future for all. This programme will encourage students to think holistically about climate change, considering the global dimension and asks -

‘Why should we care about what happens on the other side of the world, what has it to do with us?’

The workshop began with a discussion about climate change, and how it may impact on our lives.  The pupils calculate, and look at ways to reduce their carbon footprint using game cards.  There are two physical activities that explore their local environment and the inequalities of global resources.  These activities inform the design of a ‘Healthy me and climate action plan’ poster with a personalised value system.

The final activity is the creation of mathematical octahedrons from recycled paper.  These interlocking structures are joined together illustrating our interdependence on each other to create a beautiful and sustainable future.
