Lightbox Project. Guy Street Park, London Bridge 2001 - 2008.
Mark Haywood was the originator and coordinator of this ingenious community art project that created a contemporary art venue to coincide with the regenerate Guy Street Park. Five huge illuminated billboards were installed in Snowsfield NCP car park, overlooking Guy Street Park, near London Bridge. The billboards displayed artwork created by artists working with the local community and changed annually.

The pupils created over 200 drawings, paintings and collages relating the anticipation and anxiety of changing school to the seasonal changes occurring in the park. Mark selected elements from each person’s work to create the themed montages.

The Lightbox Project was supported by Friends of Guy Street Park, Southwark Council and NCP. It was funded by the Arts Council England, through the Regional Arts Lottery Programme, Haz, Cross Rivers and the Pool of London Partnership.
