Proposed community sculpture : Hankey Hall is a well used community centre on Tabard Gardens Estate. Mark was approached by Steven Hall, the environmental Improvements officer from Tabard Gardens to run a series of summer art workshops. Mark suggested creating a sculpture for the outside space and ran four workshops in August with Tabard Summer School. The workshops were a great success with over 28 children attending, ranging from 4 Ð 11 years old. The children explored the process of creating a public sculpture from the idea, through to making models & design and were introduced to casting. The proposed sculpture should have a real relevance to the community and area by being designed to include the actual hand prints of the children cast in the workshops. 18 coloured glass hands are set within a slate composite concrete and will be positioned to take advantage of the sun as it travels across the sky. |
